The Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association (OPANA) welcomes all health care professionals to the Association.  Membership is most relevant to, but not limited to, Registered Nurses practicing in the area of perianesthesia care areas.  Other health care professionals who are not Registered Nurses, e.g. Registered Practical Nurses, Respiratory Technologists, Advanced Practice Nurses and Student Nurses are welcome to join by selecting the correct category of membership available under "Membership Categories" or "Join OPANA Now!" links on the left of this page.  Out-of-province perianesthesia nurses and related health care professionals are also welcome to join OPANA, and may do so using the same links on this website.

Perianesthesia nursing is considered a specialty area of nursing practice and OPANA is the provincial professional association which has taken responsibility to define the scope of perianesthesia nursing practice and to educate the province's perianesthesia nurses on an ongoing basis.

Membership rates for OPANA have remained at the same low rate for years in order for the membership to be able to continue to renew annually.  The membership year is considered to be from January 1 until December 31 of the year of application. Members who join OPANA throughout the year or at the time of registration for the annual conference, are considered to be members of OPANA for that calendar year only.  It is through membership that OPANA's members can receive membership discounts for the conference.  In order to receive all of the benefits of joining OPANA, it is advisable to join OPANA early in the calendar year.

OPANA is a non-profit association dedicated to the education of Ontario's perianesthesia nurses.  All proceeds received through membership and conferences are returned to the Membership in the form of newsletters, announcements and flyers and through educational opportunities.  OPANA presents all financial information to the Membership annually at the Annual General Meeting held during the lunch hour at the annual conference.  OPANA's members of the Executive and Board of Directors as well as all of the OPANA Committees are volunteers and are not paid for their time.
