The Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association (OPANA) is comprised of a voluntary membership of interested perianesthesia practitioners in various areas of health care environments where anesthetics and sedatives are delivered to patients undergoing therapeutic or surgical interventions. This group of highly qualified nursing individuals are dedicated to the ongoing education of the membership of the perianesthesia nurses and related health care professionals of the Province of Ontario.
OPANA's volunteers participate in clinical practice discussions on an ongoing basis. They come to OPANA with a broad range of experiences and education that assists in the development and revision of standards and education for the perianesthesia nursing membership of Ontario. They also rely on the education, expertise and experiences of related professional practice groups and associations to acquire current and accurate knowledge.
OPANA has depended on these other professional associations and governing bodies to improve communication of perianesthesia practice issues. These groups have been divided into the following categories:
Nursing
Medical
Legal
Professional (related professional associations who are experts in fields related to perianesthesia nursing such as pain management, malignant hyperthermia, etc.)
