The Standards of Practice, produced by the Ontario PeriAnesthesia Nurses Association, provide a framework for perianesthesia nursing care in diverse settings and for diverse patient populations. It provides a framework for competency development for the perianesthesia nurse role.

All information included the Standards document is a compilation of evidence-based research and practice or, on topics where no research has been completed, on expert opinion and clinical practice experience from experts in the field of perianesthesia nursing from across the province of Ontario. All research results and scholarly documents utilized in the writing of these Standards are referenced at the end of each section to which they pertain.

OPANA continues to review and update these standards on a regular basis with reference to evolving nursing practice, client needs and technology, and incorporating the evidence presented in the literature.
